2021.10.25 05:12 LastShake How to not copy your inspirations?

I have written a few things but I find that I copy my main inspirations too much. My main inspirations are Herman Melville and Charles Bukowski. Whenever I write I think of them and my dialog, descriptions, etc. copy their style to a point of uncanniness. I thought about writing something a moment ago but I knew that it would mirror Melville way too much so I didn't do it.
I view Bukowski and Melville very highly so it is hard for me to write something that isn't at least a little bit similar to there writing. How similar is your writing compared to your inspirations?

2021.10.25 05:12 BashaB What is the purpose of vines in Blaze spawner farms?

When you see tutorials of blaze farms, most use lava flow to guide the Blazes into a 2x2 hole, and they place vines around that hole. I am curious to know exactly what those vines do. Because blazes float they don't exactly 'fall down', so those vines aren't stopping them from coming back up. But I have noticed in testing, when removing the vines, the blazes inside the farm have pretty weird path finding. Does anyone know?

2021.10.25 05:12 StratoCoaster Ex-Romance says she “feels no connection”

Yet two days before left a wall of hickeys on my chest? Sometimes I’m not great with communication but I don’t understand what’s going on here. I talked to her for about a month and hung out with her three times a week and randomly she has a problem before a long weekend away from our college? I’ve gotten decent at reading girls I’m talking to over the last few years and I didn’t see anything wrong, or even remotely negative, so did my rose colored glasses miss something? Did I do something done? Or did she fake being attracted to me for a month for some fun? She always said she wanted to go slow, but I tend to agree because I know sometimes I fall quick. Maybe I just did it again for the first time in a while. Any thoughts? I definitely don’t want to text her since I know it should be over but she’s genuinely the coolest of the few-too-many women I’ve talked to over the last year.

2021.10.25 05:12 Berdyie [Boss Mob] The Kraken

Minecraft has two boss mobs to fight; one represents the End Dimension and the other represents the Nether. While I don't think Minecraft needs to go full-on Terraria style with a boss for every stage and every region in the game, I do think it would benefit from more late-game content and challenges for the player to overcome. I mean, once you've beaten the WitheEnder Dragon, you're basically not going to be challenged by anything else... right?
Enter: the Kraken. A late-game boss creature that can be defeated as an optional and additional challenge. It doesn't reward crazy loot (other than a whole bunch of XP), but it does give the player a good fight that is far different than the other two bosses currently in the game. Not only that, but it makes Oceans and ocean content more exciting and diverse.
The Kraken is player-summoned just like the Wither. You need to create an underwater "arena" that is cornered by 4 full-power conduits, with at least a 100 block range between each corner. The vertical dimensions of the arena are dictated by where the conduits are: 20 blocks both below and above the conduits. This gives a rough arena size of 100 by 100 by 40 blocks; large, but not gargantuan. The arena is marked as invalid if any blocks within it aren't water source blocks, and it does not count waterlogged blocks as water blocks.
The boss is summoned when the player creates a full-power beacon somewhere inside the valid arena; the entire beacon, including its power blocks, must be within the boundary of the arena. When this occurs, an enormous portal opens in the center, and giant tentacles reach out to sieze and remove the beacon and its power blocks, stealing and stashing them within the portal. Then, and only then, will the Kraken emerge to fight. When it does so, all players within a 200 block radius (including outside the arena) are given the Mining Fatigue effect just like the Elder Guardian.
Taking the shape of a giant Minecraft Squid, though with a far more streamlined and fearsome appearance with two larger, suction-pad-tipped tentacles extending out behind it, the Kraken is a sight to behold. Immediately it will begin to patrol the arena just like the Ender Dragon does around its island, circling the players inside whilst firing off jets of black ink from its mouth. Any player that attempts to leave the arena while this fight is taking place (or those who are unfortunate enough to be nearby) will be grabbed by the Kraken's two largest tentacles and hauled back. This haul deals sizable damage and forces them to stay and fight: once the Kraken is summoned, it cannot be avoided until either the players perish or it does.
The ink spit attack deals minimal damage, but each time it hits a player it creates a cloud of opaque ink that blocks visibility and deals a small amount of damage to every player inside of it. So as the Kraken hits more and more players, the fighting area of the arena begins to shrink. The ink clouds last several seconds (10 at minimum), but eventually dissipate. Finally, after a flurry of ink spitting attacks, the Kraken will go in for a grasping strike with its tentacles.
The Kraken has 10 tentacles, including the two larger ones it uses to haul back players into the arena. Each tentacle is almost considered a mob in of itself: the Kraken will slow to a stop and extend these tentacles outwards, grasping at the players around it. If the tentacles don't suffer enough damage (lets say 20 HP), they will grab the player they are targetting and rapidly pull them towards the mouth of the Kraken. Once at the mouth, the Kraken takes a huge bite, dealing enormous damage (easily as much as an Iron Golem, but possibly as much as a WARDEN) before returning to its ink barrage. The Kraken can only perform this deadly attack against targets that it has successfully grabbed, making it possible for players to fight off this attack without taking any damage.
The Kraken will repeat these two phases for as long as it has a decent chunk of health. When it is reduced to a third of its hitpoints, it lets out a tremendous roar and enters a faster and much more deadly phase. The Kraken begins to violently circle the arena at extreme speed (enough that striking it with a trident is difficult or downright impossible from a bad angle), all the while ejecting massive amounts of harmful ink in its wake. The Kraken is essentially turning what was once a spacious arena into a cramped killing circle, where it finally employs its most dangerous attacks.
Finally, the Kraken begins to slow down to its regular pace, but the ink it has ejected does not dissipate until the Kraken or the players are dead. Now enraged, the Kraken begins violently sweeping mouth-first through the kill circle it has created in a straight line, disappearing once more into the ink cloud around the arena. It uses the ink surrounding the arena to mask its movments, making figuiring out where it will attack next a difficult task. When the Kraken begins a rush, it will make a small roar and emerge from the ink, giving players a single precious second to get out of the way and/or counterattack. Any players hit by this rush take enormous damage (perhaps less than before, but still enough to do massive damage to a fully-enchanted and armoured player), and any players that were not in the way get a good chance to attack the Kraken during the attack. This phase requires teamwork, as a single player would have to both dodge the Kraken AND ready their trident or sword for a counterattack within a very short time frame. It's not impossible for a single player to take on the Kraken, but just like the other two bosses extra hands makes the fight much easier.
The Kraken continues this hit-and-run style of attacking until it dies or the last player in the arena does. If all players within the arena are killed, the Kraken will return through its portal and disappear, only being resummoned by another beacon. If killed, the Kraken emits a terrible, pained screech and disintergrates in a similar fashion to the Ender Dragon, though it turns into a cloud of bubbles instead of being torn apart by rays of purple light. Upon death, the Kraken drops a boatload of XP (as much as the Ender Dragon), and nothing more. It has no unique items or loot, it merely acts as a final optional challenge for the players to overcome.
The Krakens fight is more telegraphed and phase-based than the other bosses (if you couldn't guess already, I like the bosses in Terraria), but I think Minecraft would benefit from more complex combat mechanics than just "a creature that walks at you" or "a flying boss that shoots projectiles on a timer". This way the Kraken feels unique and powerful, with attacks that are deadly and pose a unique challenge to avoid instead of just tanking them (like you can do with the End Dragon or Wither). A fully-prepared end-game player will generally make calamari out of the Kraken if they know how to fight it, but learning how to beat it IS the challenge.
I totally understand if people don't like this sort of thing, but even so please give me feedback! I'd be more than happy to see other peoples opinions, even if they are negative. I also understand that new bosses are a very frequently requested addtion, but I still personally feel like the FPS list is not only outdated, but just stifles possible discussions about new things that could come. I think, with the reveal of the Wild Update, new combat changes in experimental versions and a general air of adventure in Minecraft, it is more suited than ever to have extra challenges in the world. What do you think?
